Recipe Blog

I don't know if anyone still remembers or ever looks at the recipe blog (Anything Cooking ), but I have been neglecting it for awhile.  Today, I finally tried to make it more user friendly.  I made a list of all the available recipes.  You should be able to just click on the recipe and go there.  Makes it much easier.

If you are not yet an author of the blog, we'd love to add you!  Send me an email.  (dustynkamieATgmailDOTcom)  We'd love to hear of your favorite recipes or any tips or tricks that you have in the kitchen!

More random thoughts on a Monday.

~I thought about making a post for Brandon's birthday, yet neglected to do it!  So HAPPY BIRTHDAY Brandon!  I hope you had a great day.

~On Saturday we were able to go to SLC and go through a session in the SLC Temple.  Brandon received his endowments that day.  It really was amazing.  I love the Temple.

~My wisdom teeth holes are really starting to get sore.  They weren't so bad last week.  I think because they were so swollen.  The swelling has finally gone down a little, but that is just making it hurt worse.  Oh well.

~Today was a very productive day!  That is a good change for me!

~I don't have to babysit until 12:00 tomorrow.  The entire house is pretty much clean and laundry is done.  Whatever will I do?  I need to go to the Library and get a new book.

~I have been going to read "The Host" but I left it in Dustyn's classroom.

~Dustyn and I are listening to Twilight.  :)  We are about a quarter of the way through - and he's still listening!  :)  We'll see if I can get him past Twilight.  Right now his favorite character is Mike.  Ha ha.  I am totally kidding.  Mike is his favorite character to make fun of.  It's quite funny.

~I totally miss Dustyn.  He got home late and then two hours later he had to head to the hospital to check in for his sleep study.  :P  I miss him.

~Over the weekend, Greg and Arianne let us stay at their house.  It was so fun to see them, and they are so sweet to let us spend the night.  Even though we had to leave by 7:00AM.  And Anika... she totally cracks me up.  I love her.

~One of the couples in our local FSA were placed with a baby this week!  We are super excited for them!

~It has officially been two years since we have been approved to adopt.

~Coming up this next month, it will be 4 years since we lost our sweet Hannah!  Man, time flies.

~We are hoping to get pass-along cards here soon.  If you would like to have some, feel free to send me your address (dustynkamieATgmailDOTcom).  You might get some even if you don't send it to me!  ;)

~Well I think I am off to bed.  I am pretty tired tonight.

~More randomness tomorrow.  G'Night.

Craving something from the Olive Garden?

I was.

Mmmm.

So I made some Olive Garden Zuppa Toscana Soup.  Yu-um!

Want the recipe?

Here ya go!

  • 1 lb ground Italian sausage
  • 1½ tsp crushed red peppers
  • 1 large diced white onion
  • 4 Tbsp bacon pieces
  • 2 tsp garlic puree
  • 10 cups water  (I used 4 cans of Chicken Broth in place of the water and bouillon)
  • 5 cubes of chicken bouillon
  • 1 cup heavy cream (I used half and half)
  • 1 lb sliced Russet potatoes, or about 3 large potatoes
  • ¼ of a bunch of kale

  • Sautee Italian sausage and crushed red pepper in pot. Drain excess fat, refrigerate while you prepare other ingredients.
  • In the same pan, sautee bacon, onions and garlic for approxiamtly 15 mins. or until the onions are soft.
  • Mix together the chicken bouillon and water, then add it to the onions, bacon and garlic. Cook until boiling.
  • Add potatoes and cook until soft, about half an hour.
  • Add heavy cream and cook until thoughouly heated.
  • Stir in the sausage.
  • Add kale just before serving. Delicious!

  • It was really, really good and tasted quite similar to the real thing!

SInce we are on the topic of lost . . .

A long while back, I lost my tweezers.  I don't normally lose so many things... but sometimes I have help!  Ha ha.  Just teasing Dustyn.  Anyways, I lost my tweezers.   I have a major uni-brow if I don't tweeze.  It's bad.  Real bad.  My problem is that when I buy new ones, it takes me about a year to get them how I like them.  I have about 3 or 4 pairs at home, but they just don't get the job done.  Some just can't grasp well enough, some cut the hair off and leave a stump, and some just hurt so bad that they aren't even worth using. (weird that different tweezers hurt more)

    So here is my question:

Do you have a favorite pair of tweezer?  If so, what kind?  And, where did you get them?

I am in desperate need of tweezers.  Yes, it's that bad.

    BYU/Graffiti/Moths... the perfect combination!

As mentioned before, we spent Friday afternoon cleaning out our entire garage.  We got rid of quite a bit of junk.  One thing I hate about garages is that no matter how organized they are, they still look junky.  Or maybe it's just me.  Anyways, here is a picture of our garage.  Who says Mac's aren't useful?  Ha ha!
Dustyn got 20 new iMacs for his classroom.  I decided to bring home the boxes to try and organize our junk.  Sadly, most of them are empty...  but someday when I want to have junk, I have somewhere to put it.  They work very nicely.  You can easily access the contents without removing the box, if you don't want to.

Dustyn I went to the BYU vs. Wyoming game (44-0) last Saturday with the youth in our ward.  Here are a few pictures that I took.  It was pretty fun!
On the way up to Provo we saw a train parked on the side of the freeway.  It was super long.  Maybe some of you Happy valley folk have seen it, but almost the entire thing has graffiti on it.  I am a sucker for cool graffiti.  I do think it has a time and place.  Foul words on the side of someone else's professional building is one thing, but most of the time I really enjoy looking at it.  I'm weird I know.  Anyways on the way back Dustyn pulled the camera out and took picture for me.  Of course we were on the freeway so they were all blurry.  Had we not had youth with us, we totally would have stopped and took some cool pictures.  Maybe it will still be there this weekend.  It's very cool.
On the way back we stopped at a local burger shop and got a drink.  Ew, ew, ew.  I'm gagging thinking about it.  We love getting drinks there because they have good ice.  I really just wanted some soda soaked ice.  So I quickly drank my drink to get to the ice.  As I finished it all up, I pushed the straw all the way to the bottom and took one more large last drink.  Ew.  All of a sudden all the moisture was pulled out of my mouth and was filled with a sand of sorts.  I am thinking it was cleaner for ice machines.  Ew.  I was totally grossed out.  I started gagging.  (I have THE worst gag reflex ever.  Seriously.)  Of course I was driving so I was trying SO hard not to throw up.  It was so gross.  I doubt I can ever go there again, let alone just get a fountain drink somewhere.  Ew.

    Let's see...  what's next.

Remember how I have been complaining about Moths lately?  So here is a picture that I took today.  I had a moth massacre.  Ew.  Here are all the ones I killed.  Here are all the ones that I hadn't caught yet.  It is so bad.  While I am killing all these moths there are 30+ outside on the window just waiting to come in and join in on the battle.  They are so bad this year.  AND this is only the kitchen! We are in the bedroom now and Dustyn has caught at least 5 or 6 just sitting here, without even trying.  They are still flying around in the fan, getting flipped downward onto our heads.  Gross.

    Ew.

Did I mention that I have the absolute worst breath ever!!  And the nastiest taste in my mouth?  And absolutely nothing I can do about it?  Oh, I did?  Okay, good!  Gag me.

    Who's got a photo?

Rules: Open your pictures file, go to the fourth folder, and then the fourth picture. Post the picture and write a little bit about what was going on!
Alrighty....  this was a picture from when I hit a deer on the way to Cedar City. We were on our way to visit Nicole for her son's baby blessing.  It was an interesting weekend.  We were without a car until the wrecker brought our truck, so we walked ALL OVER TOWN!  It was a serious walk!  Ha ha!

    The Dentist

So . . . I totally hate the dentist.  Well not THE dentist, but going to the dentist.  Dustyn and I recently switched dentists.  I wasn't sure what to expect at the new dentist, after all I have been going to my old dentist since I can remember.  We are talking 25+ years.  But overall, it was a good experience.  (I guess if you consider teeth getting ripped out of your head a good experience.)

When I got there, they had me sit in the chair (of course) and let me chose a movie.  That's right.  At this dentist, you get to watch movies!  So of course being the Tim McGraw fan that I am, I chose Flicka.  It is one of my favorite movies and I was excited that it was going to help me be distracted during this whole ordeal.

I decided to let them give me some sort of drug that relaxes you.  She explained it to me like being drunk and that I would not remember anything the next day.  Hey, that's fine with me.  Who really wants to remember dental work?  Well in order to take the pills they had to crush them up and put them under my tongue to dissolve.  Oh no.  This is something that I do not do well with.  Last time I had this experience was when they were trying to start my labor when I was having Hannah.  Let's just say... I puked.  Everywhere.  I was never quite sure if it was the pain or the crushed pills under my tongue, or both.  So I was a tad bit nervous that I was going to puke everywhere.

She put the crushed pills under my tongue and started my movie (they have those glasses that you put on to watch the movie).  The also put on a blood pressure thingy and a pulse thingy on my finger to monitor me through out the procedure.  They let me sit there at least half of an hour so that I would feel nice and drunk.  Nothin.  No dizziness, no lightheadedness, no sleepiness.  Nothin.  Dang.  He laid me back and decided to start numbing me.  He noticed the pills didn't dissolve much, so he had me swallow the dust.  Yum.  But, I didn't puke.  That is an improvement over last time.

He gave me a ton of shots (I'd say at least 9 or 10) which I was fine with, as long as I didn't feel nothin'.  Of course I didn't see the needles because I was watching Flicka.  That and I closed my eyes to make sure.  I hate needles.  I freak out over FLU shots.  Yep, pathetic.  So I got nice and numb.  They fixed my broken tooth first.  Since it is my baby tooth, they just kinda filled it in hoping to keep it as long as possible so I don't have to get an implant.  Which I am very thankful for.  I am NOT looking forward to am implant.  I hope that doesn't happen for a good 20+ years.  :)

He started drilling my tooth down to get it ready, and apparently it wasn't quite dead, so he fixed that.  Nice.  The filling to fix my tooth didn't take much time.  Then on to the real problem....Wisdom Teeth!  Ahhh....  I was so not relaxed.  The little $55.00  dollar pill just tasted nasty.  That's it.  I should have known better.  Pain killers/drugs do nothing to me.  When I was having Hannah they were pumping me full of morphine.  Nothin.  I think it was saline solution.  Or else my body just doesn't react the way it should.  :P  Either way, they just don't seem to help.  And I still remember everything about yesterday.  Dang.

So he started extracting my wisdom teeth.  It wasn't so bad... at first.  Then came the part when he tried to break my jaw in half. Holy Cow.  I honestly was waiting for my jaw to snap in half.  Of course it didn't.  Then on to the next one.  This one was even worse.  I knew without a doubt that my jaw was going to snap.  But it didn't.  But I was super tense and my legs even came flying up.  He stopped to make sure he wasn't hurting me.  Uhm...  no.  I am just waiting for the snap.  That's all.  So he went back to work.  Then it was over.  I survived.  They let me sit there waiting for Dustyn to come pick me up.  I wasn't suppose to drive with that potent drug in my system that made me make crazy decisions and made me forget everything.  Ha ha.  I'm kidding.  Maybe it really worked.  I doubt it.  Anyways, it was then when my mouth started throbbing. I was totally hoping that it wouldn't start until after the numbness wore off.  Wrong.  Ouch.  Then I got the worst headache ever.  It felt like someone had been trying to brake my jaw.  Oh wait...  Ha ha.  So I got home and laid down trying to get the throbbing to stop. I was hoping they would have given me some pain pills to stop the aching.  Nope.  So I just laid there wishing I could go to sleep.  Finally the phone rang.  Apparently they forgot my prescriptions, so they called them in for me.  Thank goodness.  So Dustyn went down and picked them up, along with a bunch of soft food.  I took one when he got home and somehow eventually drifted off to sleep.  When I woke up about a half of an hour later, I felt much better.  The rest of the evening went fairly well.  (Except trying to stop the bleeding.  But eventually it worked. . . kinda)

This morning...  I am sore.  Super sore.  Ugh... hate that.  And I have a horrible taste in my mouth.  Gag me.  But at least I survived and I still remember to tell about it.  Ha ha.

I am sure this isn't that interesting of a story, since most of ya'll have already had your wisdom teeth out (and aren't big babies like me) and know how it goes... but you get to read it anyways.  Now I am just wondering if food will get in the holes and how to take care of the nasty holes in my mouth.  Ew.  I guess it will all work out.

I wish I could lay in bed for a few days and take advantage of slothing around... but I am babysitting in an hour, so I guess I better go get ready to go.  There will be time to lay around some other day.

Wanna know what's in David's head?

I read this story on KSL today and thought it was funny.

    Archuleta cut into corn maze
    September 24th, 2008 @ 7:45am
    By Randall Jeppesen

Brett Herbst wanted his massive corn maze just behind Thanksgiving Point to take on a presidential tone this fall. But he says it took a while to figure out what they wanted.
"We kind of didn't really care for either one of the candidates, so we're like, ‘Let's do Archuleta for president,'" he says.
So he's hoping the chance to get up close and personal with David Archuleta will bring crowds of people who maybe want to walk through Archuleta's ear.
"They're in his eyeball, his lips or whatever," he says.
He added getting permission to use Archuleta's image was no easy task

    Random Thought Monday.

~Has anyone seemed to notice that there seems to be a excessive amount of moths this year.  We always have so many in our house.  Very annoying.  Today when Dustyn opened the door to the garage, at least 5-6 moths flew in before he was able to slam the door.  There are about 15-20 on the window waiting to come in.  On each window. Ew.

~Let's not forget the mice.  Ew.  Bad year.

~Tonight Dustyn made dinner.  Nice!  Steak, potato/squash, and green beans.  I have the best husband ever.

~I am totally not looking forward to tomorrow (wisdom teeth), in fact, I am panicking a little.  I suppose I will survive.

~I really am wanting satellite more than ever.  Too many shows on that I would like to watch.  But I am all about a DVR/Tivo so I can watch them when I want, otherwise, it's just not going to happen.

~So anyone tried out Plurk.com?  It's totally entertaining, but just another time waster.  Ha ha.  There is really no point or reason for it, just entertainment.  :)

~I am not a nap taker, at all.  Lately, I have had a lot of naps.  Weird.  I think I have been sleeping too much and making myself tired?  Who knows, but it's annoying.

~I had a lot of random thoughts in my head.  Now, nothing.

~I bought me a new pair of pants from Target.  The button on the pants broke before I ever even got to wear them.  I hate that.  I bought them online and have yet to return them.  Maybe I will get a chance this weekend when we are up north.

~My brother-in-law, Brandon, is going through the Temple this weekend!  I am so excited for him.  We are proud of you Brandon!

~On Friday we totally organized and went through everything in the garage.  It feels good to have it done.  I love the feeling of accomplishing something.  It's the best!  I just hate getting to that point.  Next is our guest room.  Not excited for that one.  It's the junk collector room in our house.  :P

~On Saturday we went to the BYU vs. Wyoming game with the youth in our ward.  It was pretty fun, but very, very warm.  Did I mention, warm?  Last year Dustyn won two stadium seat things (you know, the ones you clamp on to the bench.  They provide cushion and a back).  It was nice to use them for once!  They made it much more enjoyable.

~Thanks for all the nice comments about the header.  I know it's not October yet, but I just have to use it now because it has one of my favorite quotes.  I love it.  I have to enjoy it while I can!

~These are mostly for Michelle (and any other "Hottie House" fans), but maybe someone else will get a laugh out of some of them.  All are direct quotes from the Hottie House.

    Sunglasses . . . anyone?

I am completely frustrated.  I lost my sunglasses!  I have searched as many places as I can think to search.  I have no more ideas.  So if anyone sees them, tell them I miss them.

Not only are they nice to have... I mean who really likes the sun in their eyes?  But, who wants to lose a nice pair of $350.00 sunglasses?  I haven't even had them an entire year yet!  Grrr...

But if anyone stole them, or finds them... lets hope they have bad eyes.  Otherwise, they are in for a nice, good headache.

P.S.  In case you find an extra pair, they are Black Ralph Lauren Sunglasses with a small white stripe on the sides (vertical) with white insides - kinda largish.   They are very prescriptioned and are in a black Ralph Lauren case.  Thank You.

    This is for Cam!

    Try JibJab Sendables® eCards today!

    Silly Kid!

I took this while I was babysitting today.  Mal was being funny!  He was laughing much harder before I decided to take a video, but it still cracks me up.  Silly kid.  Of course My was sleeping so I was just waiting for her to wake up.   (And apparently the sound doesn't work on video from my cell phone.  So you can't even hear him laughing.)  :(  Anyone know how to fix that?)

    Questions from Heather

1.If you won one of those 1 minute snatch and grab competitions, what would be your dream store to do it in and why?
Oooooo....  so many choices.  But I would have to say the Apple store.  I love Apple and would love to get Dustyn a new laptop.  I might snag myself one too while I am at it.  :)  Oh yeah and maybe a new iPod and iPhone.  Oh and . . .

    2. If you could adopt a boy or girl tomorrow which would you choose and what would you name it?

I would love either.  For reals.  But I do really want at least one girl someday.  I would tell you the names, but I am really afraid that someone will steal them if I tell anyone.  Is that silly?  I might message you later.  ;)

    3. What zoo animal (lets just assume they are all harmless and easy to maintain) would you choose as a pet?

A killer whale!  :)  Is that considered a zoo animal?  But how fun would that be?

    4. What is something that really made you laugh or embarrased you this past week?

Hmmm....  I can't think of anything embarrassing or that made me laugh.  Oh wait, how about this . . .  I found this on Tyler and Terrah's blog today.

    5. What is one of your guilty secret pleasures?

No idea.  Shopping for baby stuff.  :)  I do it secretively and I love doing it.  (I always have a story or something made up just in case anyone catches me.)

    1. Leave me a casual comment of no particular significance, like a lyric to your favorite song.
    2. I will respond by asking you five personal questions so I can get to know you better.
    3. Update your blog with the answers to these questions.
    4. Include this explanation and offer to ask others in your own post.
    5. When others respond with a desultory comment, you will ask them five questions.

More about . . . me, of course.

    We remember.

Still in our hearts seven years later.
(these are pictures from when Dustyn and I visited the Flight 93 crash site in Pennsylvania last year)

    Wednesday, September 10, 2008

    Catch up . . . C'mon. Hurry.

Here are some pictures from the big Dotson reunion at Gooseberry! It was loads of fun. Dustyn snapped a few photos so I thought I would share!  Most of these are from the talent portion of the weekend.  It's the only portion that we have pictures of!  :)  (And yes, most of them are very blurry - we have been struggling with that lately.  :)  But we try to not use the flash at all, so it gets tricky without a tripod.)

First we have Gabriella and Sharpay.  They are hotties,  huh?
And here we have Gabriella again.  Stunning.
Here we have the absolute best performance of the night.  I can't even explain it.  It was so funny and I have not laughed at hard in YEARS.  Oh my.  There is a video of it somewhere.  I would love to find it.  Little Miss C was so serious while her sisters were having so much fun  It was so funny.  You just had to be there.  :)
Here is Little Miss C being so serious and being a fabulous singer.  She is such a cutie.
Here we have the cast of HSM again.  Garbriella, Sharpay, Troy and Taylor (maybe.  Someone more up with HSM could help me out here.)  We were very lucky to have them there.  Seriously though, CamRee did an awesome job singing her song.  She sang one song all by herself and another one with the kids.  It was so good.  She is going to be a star someday!  :)   (Oh yeah, and in case you weren't sure, this is my niece CamRee, Brynlee, and HadiLee and my nephew Tryen)
Another picture of the High School Musical Hotties.
Here is our special guest that came and gave a spectacular performance.  So much talent!
This is actually a photo Dustyn took over Labor Day weekend at Fishlake.  I thought it was cool.

    Congratulations!!

Another adoption miracle.  (Yep, click here)

    Congrats Brett and Nicole!

    Phew . . .

no stitches.  It is in too awkward of a place (all the way down my nail).

And they junked the bill.  Nice.

    What a month.

    First all the dental.

    Then a sleep study.

    Now me.

I totally just cut my finger while washing dishes.

    I'm thinking stitches.

Just waiting for Dustyn to get home so he can take me to ER.  (he took the youth to the Temple.  Guess I should have gone)

    So annoying.

We have already racked up $2500.00 in medical this month.  (yes that is after insurance)

We REALLY want to go to Cali next month...  but if this continues....

    Grrr....

    I'm so irritated.

Well off to ER I guess.

I say that is enough for one month.

(Apparently it's not bad enough to not post a blog.  Ha ha.  I might have to get good at typing minus a finger)

    Name? What's in a name?

I would really love a new title for our blog.  I know our names are just not that exciting and I have been wanting to come up with a title for about 2 years now and have been trying to think of that one for that long, with no success of course.

    So anyone have any ideas?

It may involve a prize for the winner of the new blog name.

We might even have a poll after we get some ideas.  Hmm...  that sounds like a good idea!

So that's what we'll do.  You think of a new title for me, and I give you a surprise.  Deal?  Deal.

Leave your idea in the comments and next week I will compile them into a poll.  :)

(Oh yeah - and it can't involve our last name or place of residence.)

    Ryial's Photo Shoot

We had to post the highlights from Ryial's Photo Shoot.
But seriously.  If you live in the Northern Utah area and you need an electrician, Ryial does an amazing job!  Give him a call!
