You never know what you are going to find at our house...

As we were cleaning up the back yard today, Dustyn was walking across a rock area when his foot fell through. Huh?

Oh lovely.
What now?

We start investigating. Turns out it's all weak and falling through.
What the?

So we start moving rocks and digging. (We meaning Dustyn)
(Oh and have I mentioned that our ENTIRE yard seems like it is covered in rocks? The previous owners must have adored rocks!)

Here is what we found.
At first we could only see a few of them and joked about it being a truck frame.
Hoping all along it wasn't anything we didn't want to see.
(Our house has a lot of stories.)

We decided it was time to call on Mr. Kubota to help us out.
Okay?
Why in the world?
(do we even ask questions any more)

As far as we can tell it is a truck trailer frame (like a hay trailer) or something. I dunno.

Weird.

We thought about putting it in the front yard with a for sale sign on it.

My brother rocks.

So Jace, my awesome brother, volunteered to come over and till up our yard. He spent all day on Friday moving rocks, tilling the yard and trying to pull out our lilac tree. We totally appreciate him! We are now one step closer to a sprinkler system and LAWN! YAY! Someday we'll get there.

He also tried to help Dustyn put up our swamp cooler, but it doesn't quite fit yet, so we'll still working on that.
But I am SO excited to have a swamp cooler this summer!
Thanks Jace! We owe you!

Labor Day

Wow, what a weekend we had!

On Friday we got everything all ready and packed up and headed off to Fishlake. It was a perfect weekend. I don't think it could have been any better. (well maybe the noisy neighbors that kept us up all night.) Dustyn's mom, Myrna, came up and spend the weekend with us. The weather was perfect. Of course, once again, I did not take my camera, so no pictures. Sorry.

On Sunday night it started storming. The rain was coming down so hard. Our awesome tent kept us safe, dry and warm. But man, that lightening was close. It was a little scary. I don't think I have ever been in a tent when it has been raining so hard. But all was well in the morning.

On Monday we came home early and spent Labor Day doing just that. Laboring. We got a lot done in our yard though. We mowed down all the weeds (hopefully we will be putting in grass soon! YAY!) dug out an old stone path (to get ready to till it all under), and trimmed all of our trees in the front yard. If anyone has ever seen our yard, you know that was a major task. I was going to take pictures, but by the time I thought about it, we had most of it cleaned up. My dad came and helped and did a lot of cutting with his chain saw while Dustyn and I worked on the ground (well Dustyn was sawing a huge limb down by hand). It was a lot of work, but hopefully we will have a nice front yard soon to show for it. (if anyone knows where to get affordable sod, let us know!) We have a few loads to take to the dump today, then hopefully we can get it all tilled by the end of the week. I am so excited to hopefully have a yard soon!

Where have you been?!?!

I know, I know.  I am just out of it lately!  Or rather - IT'S BEEN WARM OUTSIDE!  I am loving being outside and cleaning!  I am so excited for spring.  This is the time of year that I find motivation!  I just want to get everything clean and organized - including my body!  I love this time of year!
Dustyn received a small cash award for his Teacher of the Year Award.  Guess what my wonderful husband did with it?

For him . . .
And for me . . . I am so excited! We are ready to get in shape and lose a few unwanted pounds. This is something that we can do together that we enjoy! (And most importantly - doesn't involve my FEET! Blah.)  This will for sure be part of our exercise plan.  We went for a ride last night.  It was so nice and fun!  And a serious workout!  (It's uphill to my parents house!  LOL)  I am so excited!

We also got all the limbs picked up in our yard.  It was a task.  There are a TON of trees in our yard that LOVE losing limbs when the wind blows.  We filled our city trash can and had to go buy another 45 gal can and filled it.  And I am talking STUFFED!  Dustyn got in them and jumped up and down to smash it in and fit more!  And there are plenty left over.  I am excited for the next wind storm!

Dustyn also took down the Christmas lights!  YAY!  We usually get them down the first week in January, but it has been a busy year so far and too stinkin' cold!

So that is a basic update.  It's been busy, but a great month so far.  :)

Big Yards

Dad we found the perfect yard fror you! We know how much you love to mow the lawn! This is just average it seems. There have been yards bigger than this, but they are all really well kept and mowed nicely!

YAH for Yard Work!

Dustyn and I have spent the last few days (last night and today) working on our yard. What a mess. We we hauled off a truck load of leaves/grass trimmings to the dump this morning..... then we filled my dads white trailer with at least another truck load. So many leaves and weeds! But we got most of it mowed. We haven't done all of the back yard yet because there are pieces of wood hiding among the weeds from when we tore out the deck last fall... Yes I hit one pretty good, thanks for asking! Then we loaded up some bushes in the trailer. Our yard has quite a bit of trash (old doors, old antenna, stuff from previous owners). We decided that we could take our time and do a little everyday and have it out of there in no time. Then we won't have the trashiest yard in the neighboorhood. YAH!! Our of our neighbors have PERFECT yards!! Then there is ours! Blah.

We went to Wal-Mart and bought some seed and fertilizer and reseeded our whole lawn, hopefully it works. Now we are just watering it to death and hoping we will see new grass in 8-10 days! But the bad thing is .... we can't mow the lawn until it is 3 inches tall or so... by then the rest of it will be out of control. After it has grown a little for a few months, then we will try to apply a weed and feed to get rid of the weeds and to help the grass grow. SO much fun!

Now we are watching T.V. They are showing how Suits are made. Pretty interesting! Now they are showing how the hand rail of an escalator is made. So many intersting things on the Discovery Channel. We are canceling our satelite on Wed. Sad. I wonder how long it will last? Now I have to actually try to remember to watch American Idol... it won't be DVR'd anymore! :(
NOTE TO MOM AND DAD.... made sure you DVR it and don't erase it until we come over and watch it... oh yeah, and "House" too! THANKS!!

Now it's highlighters!! What more could you ask for? I feel smarter already!
