kam-a-lam 101

Photo 241

How long have you been blogging? I started my blog in Feb 2006, but I didn't actually start really blogging until Feb 2007. I was going back and reading some of my posts during the first year. I remembered why I loved blogging. It was fun to post about random things and happenings through out my day. It seems like blogging got so serious. Nothing seems blog-worthy anymore, except Gage of course. I don't post things because it's not well written or the pictures are good enough. I want to get back to loving blogging and posting random part of my day. That is my new goal. I need to get back into that mind set.

When is all your birthdays? Dustyn - 6/16 Kamie 7/7 Gage 3/25

What is your favorite holiday? I think the 4th of July will always be my most favorite holiday. It's what I look forward to every year. I love spending time with family, good food, parades, and fireworks. I love it all. I can't wait until the 4th this year! I hope Gage loves it as much as I do. After that, I love Thanksgiving. You know, for the food, family and fun!

What do you do in your free time? Once Gage goes to bed and most of my motherly duties are done, I usually chat with Evonne, watch TV (favorites: Big Brother, Your Cut Off, Project Runway, The Big Bang Theory, The Office, Parenthood, Cupcake Wars, Glee, Worst Cooks in America, The Event, Community, Chopped, Raising Hope. Yes, we are TV watchers. Love TV.) Stumble, Tweet, play on Facebook. Yep, that is about it.

Now if it's summer and Gage is awake, we love to be outside. Camping.

Any family traditions you and Dustyn have created? I know that Dustyn and I have a lot of little traditions, but we just do them without thinking. For the most part, our main traditions are just carried over from our families. It will be fun as Gage grows to create our own traditions.

A nickname that you hate? I can't think of one that I hate. I don't have many nicknames. Kam is probably as good as it gets. Spam and Spamula are old nick names that my Uncle had for me when I was a kid. Okay, and maybe even now. Other than that, I have Kam-a-lam and Kamula as my internet nicknames. (OH! And Lady-Queen-Kam! Ha. I miss Plurk.) I am sure there have been many more, I just can't seem to think of any.

Do you still have Bruce? Yes! We still have Bruce. He is doing well. He is now 49 years old. His joints get sore easy so he gets tired easily when Dustyn walks him. He loves sleeping in the Garage in the winter and sharing his food with the birds.

Who do you look up to? I look up to Gage's birth mother. Her strength, courage and love for Gage. She is such a great mother to her oldest soon and I want to be more like her.

DO YOU LOVE CHEESESTICKS?!(do you also call them "fatsticks"?) Um... yes, please! I can't believe we have never eaten cheesesticks together. It's a travesty.

What is your favorite color? Black. I know, right? Whose favorite color is black? I also love red and orange. Oh... and some green tones. But not all.

What would be your dream vacation? Right now, I just wanna go on a cruise to... anywhere. But really, dream vacation would be to go to New Zealand and Australia so I could meet my friend, Heather. She the sweetest person I have ever met. I'd love to meet her someday.

I love to travel. Any vacation is a dream vacation! :)

How did you and Dustyn meet, I want the whole love story! I know I have written up the story... somewhere. I will find it! For now, here is the quick version. The part that it leave out? We first met in the singles ward. I had a giant crush on him and kept trying to talk to him. He would always answer with a quick answer and go about his business. I finally got brave enough to ask him out! I remember the day I did. My knees were shaking! I was so nervous. Of course he said yes, even though he didn't even know my name. Our date was fun, but Dustyn didn't say a word to me. I am not even kidding. This was on Saturday. It was on Monday at FHE that we started talking and talking and talking. That is where he fell in love with awesome little me.

I know that story is somewhere on here. I guess I better type it up again!

What's your favorite movie? Blue Crush, Moulin Rouge, 10 Things I Hate About You, Meet the Robinsons, Mama Mia, Sweet Home Alabama, No Reservations, P.S. I Love You. Okay, so those are the ones I can think of right now. I can't narrow it down to one. :)

Do you like to read? Yes! I never know what to read though. I usually read LDS Novels because I am scared of what I might find in (and have found) in random books. Know a good clean book? Feel free to suggest it to me! I do get in moods where I just wanna read. Then there are some books that take me months to finish.

What personality trait about your husband drives you crazy?? The fact that I do not exist when the TV is on. It could be the dumbest show alive (or a commercial) and I could have a really good story... I can never get him to look away long enough to even listen for a minute. It's kind of crazy. It just pulls him in. The most frustrating part about it? We have a DVR. You can pause, rewind, record, you know... all of that stuff and he still can't take 30 seconds to look my direction. He has gotten so that he will turn off the TV if I need to talk to him. It has gotten better. That is most likely the reason I spend so much time on my computer in the evenings... because we (he) watch a lot of TV. And yes, he is very aware of how I feel. ;) He even knows I am writing this.

Where did you go to college? I went to Snow College, Snow South, Utah Valley State College and Southern Utah University. Of course you already know, but I majored in Criminal Justice with a Sociology minor. I may use my degree someday. We'll see. :)

Do you remember your first date with your hubby?? Yes! That is the one where he didn't talk to me. We went up to Bear Valley and had food and rode 4-wheelers. I was helping my brother cook. Dustyn spent most of the time on the 4-wheeler. We had a giant marshmallow fight and then went home. It was a lot of fun, even if the boy I liked didn't seem to like me. ;)

Hobbies: Obviously I love taking pictures of Gage. :) I really do love photography though. I need to learn how to use a camera. Dustyn has tried to teach me, but most times I get frustrated and put it on Auto. (okay, he may just have the most complicated camera ever. Ha ha) The nice thing? I can do that with Dustyn's nice camera. I do need to learn though!

I love camping! It's my favorite part about summer! I love to be in the mountains in the nice cool, crisp air while the valley below is blazing hot. It's a nice relief!

I like making things and crafting, but I never do it. Every time I make something I remember how much I love it. I am looking for fun cheap ideas! I want to start crafting more often!

Cooking! I love cooking. I make new things all the time and try new recipes probably weekly. I love to experiment and change things up. I love when I have an excuse to try something extra fancy. Good thing I have Dustyn to do my dishes. :)

I use to love blogging, but kind of lost my love for it. I am going to get that back soon!

Thank you so much for your questions! It's fun to have something to talk about.

now, what was it that you wanted to know?

I will hopefully be answering your questions tonight.

If anyone else has any, ask away.

And here is a few more photos, just 'cause I can.

While I am fighting with Flickr, I figured now would be the perfect time to do a Q&A post.

This will give me something to blog about to keep the habit alive! :)

So here we go. You ask and I will tell.

Anything and everything.

November is National Adoption Month!

Can you believe it's November again? Oh how I love this time of year!

It's National Adoption Month!
I am going to do my best to blog everyday... although I can't promise anything. ;)

I am also going to get all the pass-along cards that I promised sent out. I'm so sorry for the delay... but they are coming soon! If you would like a few of our pass-along cards, please send your address to dustynkamieATgmailDOTcom. I will get them sent out asap. :) (i even already bought the stamps!)

To start off the month, we are going to have a Q & A session.
Go ahead and ask any question that you have about adoption. Our adoption, adoption in general, open adoption... anything really. I will do my best to answer the questions. If you are nervous to add your name, go ahead and make your question anonymous. I will answer your questions in about a week or so.

Happy Adoption Month!

Me, me, me!

Yep, it's that time again.

I am kind of in a blogging slump and I need to get out.
Remember this post?
Yep, it's time to come up with more questions for me.
Anything you want to ask.
Anything you want to know about me, just ask.
I will keep it open for a week or two (depending on how fast ya'll come up with questions) and then answer them all in one post.
Basically a custom Meme.
Ready? Set? Go!

Ask A Birth Mother

Mrs. R is asking a panel of birth mothers a series of questions. Feel free to tune in and learn more about adoption.

This week the questions were about Open Adoptions.

If you have a question, feel free to send them to Mrs. R and at some point, she will try to ask the panel your question.

Adoption is amazing! I am grateful to be a part of it.
Adoption is the reason I am "lucky" today.

Questions from Heather

1.If you won one of those 1 minute snatch and grab competitions, what would be your dream store to do it in and why?
Oooooo....  so many choices.  But I would have to say the Apple store.  I love Apple and would love to get Dustyn a new laptop.  I might snag myself one too while I am at it.  :)  Oh yeah and maybe a new iPod and iPhone.  Oh and . . .

2. If you could adopt a boy or girl tomorrow which would you choose and what would you name it?

I would love either.  For reals.  But I do really want at least one girl someday.  I would tell you the names, but I am really afraid that someone will steal them if I tell anyone.  Is that silly?  I might message you later.  ;)

3. What zoo animal (lets just assume they are all harmless and easy to maintain) would you choose as a pet?

A killer whale!  :)  Is that considered a zoo animal?  But how fun would that be?

4. What is something that really made you laugh or embarrased you this past week?

Hmmm....  I can't think of anything embarrassing or that made me laugh.  Oh wait, how about this . . .  I found this on Tyler and Terrah's blog today.

5. What is one of your guilty secret pleasures?

No idea.  Shopping for baby stuff.  :)  I do it secretively and I love doing it.  (I always have a story or something made up just in case anyone catches me.)

1. Leave me a casual comment of no particular significance, like a lyric to your favorite song.
2. I will respond by asking you five personal questions so I can get to know you better.
3. Update your blog with the answers to these questions.
4. Include this explanation and offer to ask others in your own post.
5. When others respond with a desultory comment, you will ask them five questions.

K~A~M~I~E

The information you have all been waiting for!  (or not, but read it anyways!)

Besides blogging...hehe...what are 3 other favorite hobbies? and why are they some favorite hobbies?
Well . . .  I love Photography.  I love looking at photos, taking photos, and creating photos.  It is for sure one of my favorite things.  I am not very good at it, but it is for sure a hobby.
I love to go camping, fishing, boating and hunting.  I would have to say I enjoy it because these are the times I get to spend time with my family!  We have so many great times in the mountains.  Great memories are created.  Plus, who doesn't love being in the mountains!  :)
Okay, okay, I admit it, I love playing video games with my Dustyn.  Really, if it involves Dustyn, it's probably a hobby!
Art.  I love going to museums and looking at Art.  I love watching Dustyn create Art.  I am always wondering how I could create my own art.  But I have yet to figure that out.

What's the weirdest dream you've ever had?
Uhm . . . I usually don't remember my dreams.  I can't think of one that pops out.  I will have to get back to you on that one . . . when I have a weird one.  Sorry Michelle.

If you could live anywhere outside of UT, where would it be?
Hmm . . . So many choices and places that I would live.  But I would definitely have to say Pennsylvania.  Of course.  I honestly fell in love with the whole state.  I dream about going back every night!  (that isn't weird though, is it?)  I think about it all the time.  I am obsessed with it.  I'm a dork.  But I would also love to live in a high rise studio apartment in downtown New York or Chicago.  Love it.  If it were possible I could move to a new city/state every year or two!

Where you and Dustyn of the same faith when you met?
Yes, we were.  We have both been members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints all of our lives.

Oh and how do you pronounce your name?
I am not good at Phonics, but the best way I can think of to tell you is . . . Kam-E.  Does that help?  If anyone else knows how to phonetically spell my name, feel free to help me out.

What is your favorite Tim McGraw song? (That should be a little hard to answer since he has so many good ones!)
Yes, Meliss, this is a hard question to answer.  I will tell you my top three for today.
1.  All We Ever Find  (It's unofficially the Dustyn and Kamie song!  It was our song when we were dating.  We were going to dance to it at our wedding reception, but it didn't happen.  Clean-up happened!  Ha ha)

2.  My Little Girl  (Maybe it's my quest to adoption or dreaming of having a baby, but I love this song!! P.S. It is at the bottom of my blog if you were wondering.)
3.  Put Your Lovin' On Me  (I LOVE this song.  This is my song when I am mad/angry/sad or really - just any emotion.  I drive somewhere,  put it on repeat and blast it for hours.)

What are you most afraid of?
Hmm . . . That is a hard one.  I have a lot of fears.  You know all your basic ones.  But I guess I would have to say that my biggest fear now is not becoming who I know I can be.  Letting myself hide behind Dustyn.  Losing who I am because of anxiety.

What is one thing you never wanted your mother to find out?
Well my mother already knows everything about me!  :)  But really I guess in all honesty - finding out how much I really do care about her and love her.  But if she found out that I might lose my independence or something, right?  Ha ha.

Where is your favorite place to get away?
I would have to say camping anywhere, but mostly Fishlake/Seven Mile.  I love the cool summer nights up in the mountains and sleeping in a tent.  I love the cool breeze and warm sun.  Anywhere with my family!

What has been your biggest regret so far?
Hmm . . . I can't think of a regret that I have.  Maybe not going to an out of state school and going into Marketing, Advertising, or Architecture.

What is your favorite kind of snack?
I would have to say fresh fruit!  YUM!  With my favorite fruit dip!
But I also love fresh tortillas!  (Have I ever mentioned that before?  Ha ha)

Who is your favorite blogging friend and IM friend???? :)
Ha ha ha!  Arianne, naturally.
I do however, LOVE all my blogging friends and they are all my favorite!

Well that's me!  Hope you all learning something interesting or just entertaining.

My Question for you . . .

What are your most favorite pair of affordable jeans?  Which pair can you just not live without?  What pair lasts the longest without getting holes in the pockets?  ;)

I am in the need of some new jeans and I am at a loss of where to look.  So . . . I turn to you, my faithful readers!

Me, me, me!

Okay, this is the last day to ask any question that you want about:
Tomorrow I will work on answering them all. If you have no idea what I am talking about . . . you can see here and here!

Ask Away!

Since I haven't had a lot to blog about lately - I decided to copy one of my favorite bloggers, Sheena from Sheenanigans, and have you ask the questions!  Instead of your basic "tagged" questionnaires, this way you can find out what you really wanted to know about me!  (or even Dustyn!!)  It worked out so well for her and ended up looking really fun.  So here I go!

Ask away.  Anything you have ever been curious about or any random question you suddenly came up with.

In a week or two I will answer all the questions!  Sounds like fun, doesn't it?  :)
